“I’ve been a family physician at Centre Médical Mieux-Être (Levasseur) since 2018, and the medical director since 2020.
Since childhood, I’ve always been fascinated by health. My mother, a now-retired nurse, gave me my first glimpse into the hospital world. On pedagogical days, when we had no babysitter, my sister and I would accompany her to the hospital, where the staff would give us small administrative tasks, like stamping documents. For us, the hospital was a place of joy. I also had the chance to observe my mother in action and to attend one of her teaching sessions with patients. Seeing that helping relationship up close made me want to pursue a career in healthcare.
During my studies, I landed a job as an administrative clerk in the ER at the same hospital. That experience showed me the importance of every team member and strengthened my desire to become a doctor. The emergency physicians, knowing my career aspirations, would take the time to teach and share their knowledge with me.
What makes me proud today? Celebrating my patients’ small victories. Returning to work after a long absence, stopping medication thanks to lifestyle changes… It’s those moments that remind me why I chose this profession.
As physicians, we have a responsibility to encourage healthy habits, but it’s not always easy to follow them ourselves. When teleconsultation became more common during the pandemic, I was able to reorganize my schedule and carve out time to work out. Before, my lunch breaks were spent reviewing lab results, wrapping up charts, and scarfing down food in five minutes. Now, I still eat in five minutes, but I use the rest of the time to get moving. I’m proud of that, and I like showing off my yoga mat in my office to remind patients that it’s always possible to make time for yourself!
A hidden talent? I’ve been an amateur DJ for the past two years. I’ve always been passionate about music and up to date on the latest hits, so I naturally became the go-to DJ for gatherings with friends. CMME even made a dream come true that I never thought possible in my life as a doctor: DJing at our staff holiday party!”
